Zachary Levi’s name meant something to many when he landed the lead role in the film Shazam, but few know that the actor has an active past with Marvel and also an audition for Star Lord. Recently the actor related that his attempt to become the protagonist of Guardians of the Galaxy, was in fact what helped him to finally land the title role in the DC film.
While chatting with The Playlist In one of his podcasts, the actor delved a little deeper into the story about his arrival in Shazam. But above all he told what role both James Gunn and the character of Star Lord, who now belongs to Chris Pratt within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, played in this story.
“James and I knew each other, we were friends, we had game nights at each other’s house, we had many friends in common. So he had asked me to come in and read for Star Lord, and I did, and then that led me to the next step, and suddenly I was on camera tests. Oh man, I wanted that role so bad, I wanted it so, so, so, so bad. It all came down to me, another boy, and Chris Pratt, but Chris was always his favorite, even though he was hesitant to accept it. “
A few weeks ago James Gunn was asked via Twitter if he always kept in mind those auditions or performances that did not happen and if he uses them for his future projects. The director confirmed that on occasions he has had to put aside an actor and later consider him for one of his other films. And by the way, he confirmed that after Zachary Levi’s audition for Star Lord, he fought very hard for Shazam producer Peter Safran to consider him for the role.
“Was that audition what sent the role to me?” Levi commented. “I don’t know, but I’m sure it was part of that conversation, absolutely. I am indebted to James that he believed in me enough to remember that and pass that information on.
No matter how much Zachary Levi wanted to be Star Lord, no one could say that things went wrong for the actor anyway. Shazam meant in one of those films that the DC film universe resurfaced after the various mishaps caused by Zack Snyder. The David F. Sandberg-directed film fetched $ 366 million at the US box office.
The success was such that a sequel with the same film crew and cast is already in preparation. Shazam: The Fury of the Gods is scheduled to hit theaters on June 2, 2023, so we still have a long way to go to see an event in which we may see the cross between the superhero and Black. Adam, who will be played by Dwayne Johnson.
The entry Zachary Levi could be Shazam thanks to his audition for Star Lord was first published in Cinema PREMIERE.
