Why doesn’t Yoda appear in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series?

In the most recent series live action from the Star Wars universe, several characters from the film prequel trilogy came together. After all, it is set only ten years after the Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and follows the iconic titular hero, starting from his exile on the planet Tatooine, as Darth Vader and his minions attempt to capture him. So the context allows for Obi-Wan Kenobi to cross paths with his former padawan, as well as Owen Lars, his wife Beru, Senator Organa and little Leia, but sadly not his former master Yoda. And there is a very logical reason for this.

From the perspective of Ewan McGregorKenobi’s interpreter in his solo series, the protagonist’s objectives —before and throughout the plot— do not require him to meet again with that wise Jedi with big ears.

“All that remains for him is to take care of Luke Skywalker,” explains the histrion regarding the role of his character (via IndieWire). “That’s really all she has left, other than trying to communicate with his former teacher, Qui-Gon, in his spirit life.”

However, one could argue that an extreme situation, such as Leia becoming the victim of a kidnapping -which happens in the first chapter of the show-, was reason enough for Obi-Wan Kenobi to request the help of the powerful Yoda, whose whereabouts are unknown. it was unknown to him. On the other hand, according to McGregor, the situation was of enormous risk both for him and for any other surviving Jedi Knight. Contacting any of his likenesses threatened to reveal their location and put them at the mercy of the malevolent Inquisitors of the Galactic Empire. Consequently, Yoda was best left out of this adventure.

«[Kenobi] he can’t communicate with any of his former mentors,” adds the actor. “He can’t communicate with Yoda, he can’t communicate with any of the surviving Jedi for fear of giving himself away. If a Jedi uses the Force in this time period, the Inquisitors will be able to sense it and will know where he is. I guess it’s like using your phone or something. will ring ping on some tower somewhere if you use the Force.”

However, the stage is set for Obi-Wan Kenobi have more than one season. Nothing is official yet, but minimal McGregor is currently expressing his desire to stay in the character’s shoes for longer. And who knows. Perhaps the swordsman’s next journey will take him to the remote planet Dagobah, where Yoda awaits.

“I really hope we do another [temporada]», declared the interpreter to British GQ. “If I could do one of these [producciones de Star Wars] once in a while, I’d be happy about it.”
