This week, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Marvel Studios is already working on a series live action of wonder-man, the classic comic book character we also know as Wonder Man. And first of all, this upcoming production is proof that the House of Ideas still has many surprises in its treasure chest. After concluding the Infinity Saga, the company knows very well that it cannot continue to depend on popular superheroes and that it is time to give less mediated characters greater openness. Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk are clear examples of this, and soon, Wonder Man will also have his glorious debut in the MCU.
But who is Wonder Man? For starters, he’s a Marvel Comics character that Stan Lee created alongside illustrators Don Heck and Jack Kirby. His first printed appearance took place in The Avengers No. 9, published in October 1964. Originally, Wonder Man (Simon Williams’ alter ego) was a super villain under the command of Baron Zemo, who gave him superpowers—such as the ability to fly, superhuman strength, high durability, and energy manipulation— by ion beams. His mission was to help destroy the Avengers, but in the end, he chose to side with the good guys, which cost him his life.
Between the 1970s and 1980s, subsequent Marvel comics revived Wonder Man and reintroduced him as a superhero and founding member of the Los Angeles-based faction of the West Coast Avengers. Likewise, the now vigilante presumed a kind of brotherly bond with the Vision android, because according to the comics, he was cybernetically programmed with the memories and behavior patterns of Simon Williams. And even if the MCU goes a different way, it remains to be seen if the upcoming series live action opens up the possibility that Wonder Man and Vision—or in this case, the White Vision of WandaVision— cross paths. Or perhaps there will be a meeting with Zemo himself, whom we last saw in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
For now, The Hollywood Reporter asserts that the show wonder-man will have Andrew Guest (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Community) as chief writer. will also be involved Destin Daniel Crettonwho comes from directing the film Shang-Chi and the legend of the Ten Rings for Marvel Studios. According to the report, Cretton will serve as executive producer of the series, in addition to possibly directing at least one of its episodes.
for now, wonder-man It is in very early stages of development. However, if all goes well, filming is expected to start in 2023.
On the other hand, Destin Daniel Cretton has pending the sequel to Shang Chi. The project was confirmed in December 2021, while guaranteeing the presence of the Hawaiian filmmaker again as screenwriter and director.
