More than a month after the premiere of the acclaimed spider web, it is no longer a surprise: Tobey Maguire, performer of the first Hollywood Spider-Man, made an appearance at Spider-Man: No Way Home. On the other hand, his participation was something that had been rumored for months before, in part thanks to leaked images and the confirmation of Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) and Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), also belonging to the trilogy. spider-man by Sam Raimi.
But exactly how did Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios approach Maguire about his return as Peter Parker? The same actor finally came to light for the sake of telling that anecdote.
This week, for the first time we were able to witness a video interview —hosted by Pete Hammond of dead line— which brought together the three famous interpreters of Spider-Man. That is to say, Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield Y Tobey Maguire. In the half-hour conversation, different aspects were addressed around Spider-Man: No Way Home; among them, the story behind the signing of veterans Garfield and Maguire, whose versions of Peter Parker were able to visit Holland thanks to the infinite possibilities of the multiverse.
In the case of Tobey Maguire, it was not even necessary to mention “Spider-Man” when the famous producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige – responsible for the arachnid saga within the MCU – knocked on his door. He already knew what the proposal would be about, despite not knowing the details.
“I went and had a meeting with Amy and Kevin,” said the actor. “And we talked about… It was just suggested to me. I think Amy said, ‘We’d love to talk to you and you know what this is about.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, sure, let’s have a chat.’
And I add:
“I must say that I was immediately intrigued. In that conversation, the intent, the kind of love and celebration of these movies—and what they meant—I think for Amy and Kevin was apparent. For me [es muy importante] when the artists or the people directing the creative process have some kind of authentic and genuine intention of celebration and love. [Aquello] It was very evident in both of them that I just wanted to join that.”
Maguire had not worn the New York superhero costume for almost fifteen years, after the conclusion of his film series. spider-man, the same ones that conquered the big screen between 2002 and 2007. Until 2012, the figure of the wall-crawler resurfaced, played by Andrew Garfield in Marc Webb’s film saga. And in 2016, the most recent version of Spider-Man arrived, from the hand of Tom Holland.
“I’m a big fan of Tom, those movies and Andrew. So definitely [el proyecto de No Way Home] it was intriguing. I also thought, ‘Well, what are we going to do?’ And that was a bit of a mystery,” added the Californian. “But, it was really about meeting these people and going back to what was part of my story. […] I’m not quite sure how to say it. It was just about getting back to it. I don’t mean to close the chapter, but to revisit and have certain resolutions and just join in that loving creative spirit.”
