It was in May 2017 when the Japanese media reported that a feature film live-action from Knights of the Zodiac (Saint Seiya) he had finally received the green light in Hollywood. After several years of development and multiple delays, THR revealed today the main cast, new members of the production team and a first synopsis as part of the recent conclusion of the filming of the film.
The franchise has its origin in the homonymous manga written and illustrated by Masami Kurumada, which was serialized in the magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump between 1986 and 1991. The play made the leap to the small screen with an anime series in October 1986 and would become one of the favorite titles of the Latin American public thanks to its broadcasts on local television stations during the 1990s. success has given rise to numerous titles released from the universe of Saint Seiya in manga, anime, video games, theater, and tons of merchandise.

As announced four years ago, the leadership fell on the shoulders of Tomasz Bagiński, Polish animator behind the Oscar-nominated short film Katedra (2002) and creator of special effects for the series The witcher. Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken, responsible for the scripts of Cloverfield Avenue 10 (2016), Horizon line (2020) and Notorious nick (2021), they co-wrote the last drafts of the film project.
The action sequences were supervised by stuntman and martial arts choreographer Andy Cheng, coordinator of the fights in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) by Marvel Studios.
The live-action from Saint Seiya is a co-production between Toei –The Japanese giant who has developed most of the anime incarnations of the franchise, including the classic series from the 80s– and Sony Pictures –Which will be in charge of distributing the film outside of Japan, excluding China and the Middle East–.
Filming took place this year in Hungary and Croatia. At the moment, the film does not have an official release date.

Mackenyu (Seiya). Son of Japanese martial arts legend Sonny Chiba. Mackenyu has participated in numerous adaptations live-action manga in Japan, with prominent roles in the film trilogy of Chihayafuru or the movie Rurouni Kenshin: The Final (2021). The actor made his Hollywood debut with Pacific Titans: The Insurrection (2018).
Madison Iseman (Sienna / Athena). The South Carolina native actress is best known for her role as Bethany Walker in the movies of Jumanji, in addition to participating in productions such as Chills 2 (2018) or Annabelle 3: Coming Home (2019). Madison will be part of the cast of the series I know what they did last summer for Prime Video.
Sean Bean (Alman kiddo). With a career spanning nearly four decades in theater, television and film, the British actor is a crowd favorite for his performances as Boromir in The Lord of the rings and as Net Stark in game of Thrones.
Other confirmed actors, but whose roles were not revealed yet are: Famke janssen (X Men), Nick stahl (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines), Diego Tinoco (On My Block) and Mark Dacascos (John Wick: Chapter 3).

In what has been called an origin story, Mackenyu plays Seiya, an orphan and the main hero of the franchise. When a mystical energy known as Cosmos awakens in him, Seiya embarks on a journey to obtain the ancient Greek Pegasus armor and choose his side in a supernatural battle for the fate of Sienna (Madison Iseman), a young woman struggling to control her divine powers.
[Sean] Bean plays a mentor named Alman Kiddo, the man who recruits Seiya to the Order of Knights, which he founded himself when he discovered the reincarnation of the goddess Athena. [Diego] Tinoco is hired to kill the vulnerable goddess ”.
