Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, the two showrunners of The House of the Dragon are more than aware of the “coffee glass incident” that occurred in Game of Thrones. For those who don’t remember, in the episode “The Last of the Starks” (Season 8, Episode 4), some viewers noticed the presence of what appeared to be a disposable coffee cup on one of the show’s tables. The error became a viral moment and a physical sign of the despair that the audience already felt towards the last seasons of the popular series. The teasing on the internet, of course, did not wait.
In conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, said they were on “maximum alert” during the filming of La Casa del Dragón to avoid a similar mistake. Unsurprisingly, both creators took their predecessors’ mistake lightly by admitting that all programs have bugs. Still, Condal stressed that they did take extra precautions to avoid modern, out-of-context objects in the new series.
The coffee glass error will not be repeated in The House of the Dragon
For his part, Miguel Sapochnik joked that what they did was place many glasses throughout the set and then erase them in post-production. “We leave them everywhere and then we digitally erase them,” Sapochnik joked in that interview. “Let’s see if viewers can find where they used to be, if they find them there will be a prize. A cup of coffee”.
