For years the fan favorite to play a new Wolverine on screen has been Taron Egerton. His passage through the character was built on the basis of rumors, fanfics, posts on social networks and even the actor’s own reactions. However, Marvel Studios has remained silent and did not even dare to touch the character in the latest and multiversal adventure of the studio, so any news about the reboot of the X Men is welcome.
Despite years of denial, for the first time Taron Egerton gives us a hint (about his place as Wolverine. On past occasions he has denied any official contact with Logan, but in a recent interview, he finally confirmed that there has been a serious flirtation with the character. According to the actor, he has even met with Marvel executives to talk about it.
“I don’t think it’s wrong to say this,” Egerton said. “I’m excited but also apprehensive, because Hugh is so associated with a role that I wonder if it will be very difficult for someone else to do it. But let’s hope that if he comes, they give me a chance ».
Audiences were introduced to the cinematic Wolverine way back in the year 2000. Right at the turn of the millennium, Hugh Jackman took on a role that became an icon of popular culture for generations. He later repeated the feat in several more movies and even a solo trilogy.
The last time audiences saw him in action was in 2017, when in Logan, director James Mangold, built a twilight episode for the character. Since then half of the audience has looked for Jackman’s return to the adamantium clawed prosthetic. While the other half cries out for a rebirth with a new face.
In previous years, Egerton himself denied that even Marvel had knocked on his door. Despite having shared the screen with Jackman and the insistence of the fans, he assured that there were no solid bases for the rumors.
“The fact that everyone thinks I’m the one for the role is flattering,” he said. “I love Marvel, but for now it’s all fan stuff. There is no solid basis for these rumours.”
Now that Marvel’s phase four is halfway over, perhaps it’s time to start considering the real possibilities of a reboot of the mutants. Although Daniel Radcliffe was also in the running for Wolverine – at least in the minds of fans – it seems Egerton is closer to the finish line.
