There are no DeLoreans here, but in these series about time travel, what we are offered by the many is imagination: period dramas, satires and social criticism, as well as supernatural entanglements.
The great thing about all these proposals is that none is the same as the other and the ways in which travel is presented to us do not really ask anything of the products that are presented on the big screen. Someone to lend us an artifact to travel to a future where we have already seen them all!
Here, the best series about time travel.
Doctor Who (1963-1989, 2005)
As long-lived as it is acclaimed and central to contemporary popular culture. The story of the Doctor (or the Doctor, in its most recent season) – an extraterrestrial entity in human form, capable of transporting itself through time and space – has marked countless generations for its ability to constantly reinvent itself. It is not risky to dare to call this project the first to explore the effectiveness of sci-fi on British television.
What do the protagonists do to travel through different eras? Simple! Go up to the TARDIS, a sophisticated machine shaped like a phone booth.
Quantum Leap (Time Travelers, 1989-1993)
This classic series told the story of Dr. Sam Beckett, who finds a way to travel through time, but in the body of other people. Precisely this resource was the opportunity to have guests in each chapter, all acting like Beckett, giving the Show Different personalities.
Its mix of comedy, romance and social criticism has made it one of the most important cult shows.

We understand that, for some readers, the fact that this production occupies a place in our list of best series about time travel may seem something… strange. But really, part of what made this ABC sci-fi drama a success was its curiosity to take its story to the next level.
If by itself the Dharma Initiative, Polar Bears and Smoke Monsters They were no longer mysterious enough, in season four things got worse, as the island began to make curious time jumps.
The story of Claire, a nurse who is transported from 1945 to Scotland in 1743, was acclaimed in its early episodes for its production design and scripts, but also for the romance at its core. A fiction that has been appreciated for the level of detail it has.
As the seasons progress, the adventure grows, as Claire falls in love with a mountain man named Jamie Fraser, who is obviously not from his time. The sixth season is expected to premiere soon.
The Ministry of Time (2015)
TVE series that focuses on a team of agents who are “the best kept secret of the Spanish government.” They are in charge of guarding the Gates of Time, so that no intruder can alter the course of history.
In 2016, the producers sued NBCUniversal, claiming that Timeless (which we include later) is a copy of this project. If they are analyzed … the truth is that the plots of both sound very similar, although curiously both have been very well received.

12 monkeys (2015-2018)
This adaptation to eponymous movie directed by Terry Gilliam (which, in turn, is an adaptation of La Jetée by Chris Marker) centers on James Cole and Dr. Cassandra Railly, two strangers who must join forces on a mission to travel through time to stop the plans of the evil and mysterious “Army of the 12 Monkeys.”
It had four seasons that were very well received.
Based on the Sephen King authorship story, in which an English teacher has the opportunity to go back to the 1960s to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy. As if this seems not enough, it should be mentioned that the conflict intensifies when the character becomes fond of the lifestyle of yesteryear.
Starring and produced by James Franco, and also produced by JJ Abrams and King himself. In addition, it has an episode directed by Franco. It’s a miniseries, so after eight chapters, everything ends.
The streaming Red also proved success with such a story. In this project starring Eric McCormack, a group of agents were sent to different eras to prevent the collapse of society. The interesting thing – and a resource that is rarely seen in series about time travel – is that what travels is not the bodies, but the consciences of the protagonists.
In addition, there are a number of rules that travelers they must follow – in the purest style of the protocol created by Isaac Asimov – the same that are the basis of the story. It was canceled, although critics and the public liked it.

When a historian, a military man and a scientist come together to stop a strange organization that tries to alter the most important events on the planet, what you get are highly imaginative episodes, since the resource of combining the contemporary was taken advantage of.
Imagine our heroes meeting Queen Elizabeth, or a 17-year-old John F. Kennedy. These kinds of encounters are the ones that shaped the general plot. The production was canceled twice and twice it was rescued by fans. Unfortunately, the third time was the charm and the most that was obtained to conclude the program was a two-hour movie.
The German phenomenon that took everyone by surprise from the moment of its premiere, not only for its narrative quality, but for its palpable suspense present in each painting. It is about how a mysterious disappearance leads to a series of intricate events, all of them related, of course, to time travel.
Complex and compelling, this is a series that must be seen with a notebook next to it, in order to be able to carry the thread of so much entanglement.
