Sam Raimi shares his thoughts on Spider-Man: No Way Home

The latest Spider-Man movie greatly captivated a global audience through one of the fan services most far-reaching in history. Spectators of all ages fell in love with the conjunction of three endearing versions of the arachnid in the same film live action: Tom Holland’s from the MCU, Andrew Garfield’s from the saga The amazing Spiderman and Tobey Maguire’s from the original film trilogy. The latter conquered the big screen between 2002 and 2007, under the direction of the veteran sam raimi, who recently revealed his feelings towards the blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Certainly the contribution of Sam Raimi to the successful blockbuster of the Marvel Universe was not only the emblematic Spider-Man by Tobey Maguire. A recurring opinion is that those who really steal the spotlight are the villains from the filmmaker’s series of films; specifically, Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus. In any case, seeing those three actors reunite —old work colleagues— was what Raimi valued the most from his seat in the cinema.

“It was fun. I love it no way home and the audience he was with went crazy. It was lovely to see Alfred play his part, and Willem Dafoe, just to see these guys take it to the next level. And Tobey was amazing as always. The best word I can say is that it was refreshing for me«, confessed the director in an interview with Variety.

And while the enthusiasm towards Spider-Man: No Way Home begins to subside, it is precisely a film by Sam Raimi for the Casa de las Ideas that demands more and more attention. We are talking, of course, about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a tape that promises to be equally ambitious in terms of unusual crossovers. For example, rumors persist that the X-Men and the Fantastic Four will participate in this new adventure of the Sorcerer Supreme. Will it be a reality?

The sequel to Doctor Strange filming finished in December 2021, after a series of «reshoots significant” that —according to a source of The Hollywood Reporter— arose from the need to include more cameos and new characters. However, in his role as director, Sam Raimi still cannot guarantee that the film is 100% finished.

I wish I knew the answer to that question. I think we are done, but we just cut everything,” he said in the same talk with Variety. “We are starting to test the film and we will find out if there is anything that needs to be improved. If there is anything unclear or another improvement that I can make in this short period of time, I will. One thing I know about the Marvel team is that they won’t stop. They will keep pressing until [la película] Be as great as possible.”

And I add:

“Marvel has been a great team. I don’t think it’s a surprising surprise. I’ve been very supported by all of Marvel’s operations, starting at the top with Kevin Feige and going all the way down to the production teams that they work with. They are super professional and have supported me every step of the way.”
