The confusion

The teller, who mistook the note for an attempted robbery, set off an alarm and triggered a notification alert from Coogler’s account. Later, she notified her boss of the alleged robbery attempt and they both called the police. When police officers arrived at the scene, they detained two people who were with Coogler and who were waiting for him outside in a car. It was these people who told the officers who Coogler was and what he was wearing. All this coincided with the report they had received.

Friends of Ryan Coogler were detained in a police vehicle while the manager was escorted from the bank in handcuffs. After verifying his identity, the three subjects were released immediately.

A Bank of America representative told Variety how sorry they were and incident and that this should never have happened.
