Extraction 2 relocating filming place due to Covid crisis

Fans may have only gotten to know Chris Hemsworth as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thor, but the actor has another role in the action genre that he will soon be reprising. Last year, it was announced that the movie Extraction, in which Hemsworth starred as the mercenary Tyler Rake, had been greenlit for a sequel just a week after the movie release. The next film in the franchise, Extraction 2, is preparing to begin shooting and will do so elsewhere in response to fears that COVID-19 closure will hurt that part of the production process.

Initially, Extraction 2 was set to shoot in Australia, but a few days ago, the team preparing in New South Wales learned that they would have to move their equipment and production to another location. With Variety stating that Chris Hemsworth‘s “schedule and the increasing concerns connected with filming in Australia” cleared the door for migration, Extraction 2 will shoot in Prague, the Czech Republic’s capital. New South Wales has ordered a shutdown of shooting sites in the area until September 30 as a reaction to the COVID-19 delta strain, which has spread beyond the main filming destinations of Sydney and Melbourne.

A COVID-19 case occurred among the team of Russell Crowe’s upcoming movie, Poker Face, prompting a production halt after Extraction 2 location filming shifted immediately to Vancouver, where it would still be safe from outbreaks. The Mad Max prequel spinoff Furiosa will start preproduction in November or December, and according to Chris Hemsworth, he’ll be in Australia to begin working on it. He will, however, be kept busy for the next few months with the next Tyler Rake novel since he would be in Prague, which is more favorable given the epidemic that continues to wreak havoc. Extraction was the first film in the series to be shot in India and Thailand.

Extraction (2014 – review here) follows Tyler Rake, who leaves his girlfriend, fiancée, and kids to save the abducted son of an Indian criminal lord based on Ande Parks’ Ciudad graphic book. Here’s Extraction 1’s official trailer:

In addition to Randeep Hooda, Golshifteh Farahani, and Pankaj Tripathi, Rudhraksh Jaiswal is a co-star of Chris Hemsworth. Sam Hargrave, most known for his role as Tyler’s co-star C, also directed the movie from a screenplay written by Joe Russo. Extraction has amassed over 100 million views from Netflix subscribers within four weeks of its debut. Extraction received a rating of 67 percent from critics, according to Rotten Tomatoes. That’s why we’ve put a big spotlight on this point in our strategy.

Along with Chris Hemsworth’s comeback, Sam Hargrave and Joe Russo are bringing back their director and screenplay writer positions. Neither Extraction 2’s storyline nor any other information has been disclosed yet. It is possible to say, but Extraction was already considered having a sequel, and maybe more. His comment about trying to make “another couple more” for the fans indicates that he was referring to the upcoming Fantastic Beasts series, which he and the rest of the team are involved in. The brothers also expressed interest in setting up a cinematic universe in December of the same year to give other characters in the series some time in the spotlight.

Until further information comes in, we will continue to provide you updates on Extraction 2.
