Oscar Isaac: Moon Knight, first character study since Iron Man

The return of Oscar Isaac to the world of superheroes must have cost him a great sacrifice since the last time he stepped on a project of this type. If we remember it was X-Men Apocalypse, the film with which the actor ventured into the genre and many of us think it could be the last. However, Isaac now confesses that there was a certain attraction on his part towards Moon Knightbecause of the configuration of the character and because there is a character study like there hasn’t been in the MCU since Hombre de Hierro.

After having starred in the failed installment of the mutants and having participated in a large saga such as starwarsIsaac was looking for something different. In his mind, he wanted to go back to those little independent films where the characters are designed with great depth. films like Inside Llewyn Davis of the Coen brothers, are the favorite example. But at the same time it is difficult to leave the great blockbusters and the attraction of participating in a project of such dimension.

“Often in these big movies it can feel like you’re building a plane on the tarmac,” Isaac said. “The idea of going back to ‘handmade’ movies, to character studies… I was desperate for that tone again.”

Fortunately for Oscar Isaac, Moon Knight brought together the best of both worlds. According to the actor (via) the character of the knight of the moon has within himself a kind of ‘handmade’ very similar to what a character would have in a small-scale film.

“It felt ‘handmade,’” he explained. “It’s the first legitimate Marvel character study since Iron Man. I thought, ‘Maybe I can take this thing. Maybe this is the chance to do something really crazy on a big stage.'”

Moon Knight or the Knight of the Moon is a rather curious character. His origins date back to the 1975 comics and his original story is that of a mercenary, boxer, marine and former CIA agent who is betrayed by a colleague on an archaeological dig. About to die, this character is intervened by the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, who offers him a second chance.

Upon awakening back to life, this character returns with superhuman powers, but above all with an identity crisis. Inside his head he seems to have the personality of the aforementioned God, but also various versions of himself that will function for different purposes. A character study of Moon Knight to try to define him as something similar to Batman. Like the dark knight if he had dissociative personality disorder.

“What I like most about this is that it’s exploring a mind that doesn’t know itself, a human being that doesn’t know their own brain,” Isaac continued. “I found that really moving: what the mind is capable of in terms of survival. But the workload was huge: the technical challenge of embodying these different characters, physically, the way I manifest my body… it took a lot of energy.”

Moon Knight is scheduled to arrive on March 31 through Disney Plus. In addition to the presence of Oscar Isaac, the series has a cast of luxury. Composed of Ethan Hawke, May Calamawy, Gaspard Ulliel and Loic Mabanza.

The entry Oscar Isaac: Moon Knight, first character study since Iron Man was first published in Cine PREMIERE.
