We were very excited when we heard about Tom Gormican’s The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent because we knew it would be something special. When it comes to Nicolas Cage portraying Nicolas Cage, there’s nothing more the movie can do. It has already reached its maximum potential. After years of being stuck in development hell, we’re happy to see The Mandalorian on-screen finally. Still, we’re extra thrilled to finally get our first glimpse at the next Star Wars series, with an equally good chance of having a huge effect on pop culture.
A week at CinemaCon, the annual conference for cinema owners in Las Vegas, was entertaining. Still, this afternoon’s Lionsgate presentation kicked things up a notch, with The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent getting a rapturous response. The film was shown with a lengthy red band reel that laid out the narrative and introduced all the major characters, and from what was seen, it is already on track to be one of the most notable big-screen productions of 2022.
When The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent starts, Nicolas Cage‘s character (Nicolas Cage) earnestly tries to make it as an actor, having just been through a slump. He’s done performing and is now in the midst of a personal crisis over his failure. Even so, he can’t say no when his agent, Neil Patrick Harris, says he’s been offered a $1 million fee by wealthy socialite Javi (Pedro Pascal) to appear at his birthday party.
After getting on a boat in Majorca, Nicolas Cage comes to a majestic mansion where he begins talking to a young man named Javi, who tells him oral sex isn’t part of his welcome package. Things start tense, but Cage and Javi quickly warm up to one other.
It was recently discovered that Javi has a large selection of Nic Cage’s memorabilia, including a massive replica of Cage’s “Face/Off” character from his movie of the same name, which Nic Cage both detests and offers $20,000 to buy. The relationship between the two guys starts well, but it is cut short by unexpected events.
Without realizing it, Cage was, in fact, in the presence of Javier Gutierrez, one of the most violent men in the world and a target of the FBI, who were just about to apprehend him. The agent (Tiffany Haddish) investigating the case is clueless about Cage’s acting career and tries to convince him to help her bring Javi down by using him as bait.
It’s possible to see similarities between The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s The Interview. Still, the former has its own unique energy, and Nicolas Cage seems to be having fun making fun of himself. It’s undoubtedly one of the most thrilling movies of the year, as shown by the one I saw at CinemaCon.
The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent’s debut trailer will be coming out sooner or later, but you should begin looking forward to it now. This is an especially long lead time for the film’s theatrical release, which will take place on April 22, 2022.
