The Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMACC) has announced the new person who will take the reins of its presidency from November 9: Leticia Huijara.

The Mexican actress will succeed the prominent Mexican producer Mónica Lozano, who for two years has been at the head of the organization. The management of Leticia Huijara at the head of the AMACC will cover the period 2021-2023. Who is Leticia Huijara?

Born on September 12, 1967 in Acapulco, Guerrero, Leticia Huijara has a degree in Dramatic Literature and Theater from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

Her acting career began on the stage in 1987 with the play Of the street. Later, he ventured into film and television. His early works include Of the street (1988), by Nicolas Echeverría, Lola (1989), from Maria Novaro -current director of IMCINE- and the series Marked time (1990).

Other important titles within his artistic career are Cilantro and parsley (nineteen ninety six), In case I don’t see you again (1997), Herod’s law (1999), by Luis Estrada and Keta’s journey (2018). He had a special participation in the series Sense8 (2017); He was also part of the cast of The cesar (2017) and, in addition, we saw it in the series Dark desire (2020). And his most recent project corresponds to the Mexican horror film Look at me (2021), by Pavel Cantú, which, by the way, was part of the Official Selection of the last edition of Macabro, the International Horror Film Festival of Mexico City.

Leticia Huijara has been nominated three times for the Ariel Award -awarded by the AMACC-: in 1995 for the film Two crimes, in the category of Best female coercion; in 1998 for his performance in In case I don’t see you again, in the category of Best Actress where she was victorious; and finally in 2020 for the tape Dark cities, in the category of Best female coercion.

According to an AMACC profile (via), in parallel, the actress has worked as a writer and playwright. The tale of his authorship Goodbye to paradise is part of the anthology The dark edenby Editorial Planeta. In 2014 he won the Víctor Hugo Rascón Banda National Dramaturgy Award and in 2010 he won first place in the Sixth Matilde Landeta Feature Film Script Competition. In fact, two of his feature film scripts have been selected by IMCINE to support their rewriting.

The actor also wrote an opinion column for a year in the newspaper Center and publishes stories regularly on the blog Only on Thursdays, workshop created and conducted by Mto. Vicente Leñero.
