Leslie Grace responds to Batgirl cancellation

Reactions continue after it was announced that Warner Bros. Discovery will not go ahead with the production and release of the film centered on Barbara Gordon. Now it was its protagonist Leslie Grace who spoke about the decision made by the senior managers of the study around batgirl.

The actress of Dominican descent shared a brief message through her official Instagram account, where she expressed her gratitude to the entire team involved in the film. The publication was accompanied by a series of behind-the-scenes photos and videos from the shooting of batgirl.

“Dear family! Regarding the recent news about our film batgirlI am proud of the love, intentions and hard work that our entire incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over seven months in Scotland. I feel blessed to have worked among absolute giants and forged lifelong relationships in the process! To all the fans of batgirl: THANK YOU for your love and for believing in me, allowing me to put on my cape and become, like babes says, my own heroine! Batgirl forever!” wrote Leslie Grace.

The film was originally going to premiere on HBO Max. However, David Zazlav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, made the decision to can the project based on the need for cost savings and a new strategy that will prioritize exclusive theatrical releases of films. In that sense, the company had doubts about whether Batgirl would live up to the level of spectacle of other DC tapes.

In the afternoon, directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were the first members of the production to refer to the cancellation of batgirl. “We are saddened and shocked by the news. We still can’t believe it”, expressed through a publication on social networks.

Leslie Grace was confirmed as the protagonist of batgirl in July 2021. The breakout star of In the Heights shared credits in this film with figures of the stature of Michael Keaton, who resumed his role as Batman after almost three decades; JK Simmons as his father, Commissioner James Gordon; in addition to Brendan Fraser as the villain Firefly.
