“Second round, new suit, more action”, wrote Jason Momoa last weekend, on the occasion of two new images of the saga Aquaman. Through Instagram, the American actor pleased his followers with two full-body portraits, where we see him wear the classic clothing of the King of the Seven Seas – the one he wore in the 2018 film – but also a completely new outfit. Which do you like more?
The second image from the previous Instagram post shows Jason Momoa in a suit that swaps greens and golds for blues and silvers. Apparently, this is how Arthur Curry will dress in the upcoming film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, whose filming began more than two months ago in England, under the direction of James wan.
This filmmaker shared those same images from social networks, but unlike Momoa, he provided some details about Aquaman’s bluish clothing, soon to debut on the big screen.
Here is Jason Momoa in the classic Aquaman costume. And a sneak peek at her other outfit: the stealth suit«, James Wan wrote on Instagram. «[El traje cuenta con] Atlantean technology based on the camouflage capacity of cephalopods. [Mi guionista] David Leslie Johnson and I were inspired by the ‘blue suit’ of the 80s«.
The so-called “blue suit” that inspires the costumes for the sequel was released in 1986, through a limited series of comics Aquaman (via). This set of four numbers, created by Noel Pozner and Craig Hamilton (among others), is about a confrontation between the titular superhero and the antagonistic Master of the Ocean, who aspires to conquer the maximum power through the Crystals of the Zodiac. For his part, Aquaman decides to release that blue and white suit, since it is an outfit that allows him to camouflage himself in the depths of the ocean.
On the other hand, James Wan chose to go back beyond the 80s in his search for references for the sequel to Aquaman. Last month, the Australian filmmaker confessed that he took inspiration Planet of vampires (1965), a horror film directed by Italian Mario Brava. While Wan did not specify which elements of the next DCEU film will echo that cult film, he acknowledged that it will address a much darker adventure for the King of the Seven Seas. After all, the original comics are about “a spooky and strange world”, in the words of the filmmaker.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom It will hit theaters on December 16, 2022. Its cast is complemented by Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, among others.
The entry Jason Momoa shows off new costume for Aquaman sequel was first published in Cinema PREMIERE.
