Producer Barbara Broccoli still does not know what the future of 007 will be, but of one thing she is sure: she does not believe that the next James Bond would be a woman. Both she and her brother Michael G. Wilson hold the creative power of the franchise. which is why they’ve been questioned ad nauseam for the sake of Daniel Craig’s firing. Of course the bigger question is who will replace Daniel Craig for future franchises?
Although Broccoli and his brother don’t know, there are certain things they are sure of. One of them, for example, is that the character will never be bought by a platform streaming and his adventures will not make it to television. Regardless of whether Amazon Studios bought the entire MGM, the ultimate goal is to protect the secret agent to keep him on the big screen forever.
But on the other hand there is the matter of changing the sex character. With recent examples such as regeneration number 13 of the protagonist of the series Doctor who, another great serial of British tradition, many wonder if perhaps it is not time to have a secret agent. Certainly No Time to Die gave us a little taste of it. However, Broccoli considers that it is not a good idea and explained to The Hollywood Reporter why.
“I think it will be a man because I don’t think a woman should play James Bond,” he explained. “I believe in making characters for women and not just women playing the roles of men. I don’t think there are enough great roles for women, and it is very important to me that we make films for women about women. It should be British, so the British can be any [etnia o raza]».
Of course for Barbara Broccoli the James Bond saga is like her baby, so she will protect the character until she is exhausted. This was commented by Cary Fukunaga, who directed the last 007 film and who was surprised to discover that behind the franchise there were producers very involved in each creative decision.
“We love Cary. He has done an exceptional job, ”continued Broccoli. “I have no idea if I would do another [película]. I think he did this because he wanted a challenge, and he sure did. But I’m not sure if I would do another. We would love to work with him again «
The offer is on the table, but no decision has been made. Meanwhile the fans and the public have already pointed out the best candidates for Daniel Craig’s replacement and for their part the producers allegedly already have a shortlist that was leaked a couple of months ago. You can read the names of the lucky ones here.
