Image from Spider-Man: No Way Home with Mysterio vs Doctor Strange

Despite the exquisite cast of villains, the latest Spider-Man film was one short of reuniting the Sinister Six. It is true that the fans do not hold a grudge against him; mere confirmation of “spider-verse” it was enough to please and thrill all audiences. But, what if the Casa de las Ideas had actually summoned the sixth member of that antagonistic group? A concept art of Spider-Man: No Way Home, just released, shows that the fallacious Mysterio could be part of the final battle.

See below the image circulating on Twitter, with Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios as rights holders.

There are clearly divergences between the concept art and the resulting film. In Spider-Man: No Way HomeAlthough the Statue of Liberty is the scene of the decisive battle between the heroic triad and their Machiavellian rivals, this monument boasts Captain America’s shield instead of the torch, in addition to being surrounded by scaffolding. None of this can be seen in the previous image. However, we cannot rule out that the presence of Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio, was a serious proposal at some point in the production.

But wait, isn’t that antagonist supposed to have been dead already? Spider-Man: Far From Home? Very true, and in the end it is his death —or rather the misleading video he recorded minutes before— that becomes the spark for all of Peter Parker’s problems in no way home. On the other hand, let’s remember that in the third act, a rip in the sky threatens to attract more characters from the multiverse to the New York of the MCU. And one of the celestial silhouettes that the clever public will have appreciated is precisely that of Mysterio.

Consequently, it is not difficult to imagine a scene where the aforementioned villain sneaked in from an alternate universe and had a confrontation with Doctor Strange. Also, who take away and this version of Mysterio really had magical powers, instead of all the technological paraphernalia. Without a doubt that battle would have been incredible.

In the end, Spidey fans saw five famous adversaries—Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman, and Lizard—in one movie that more than delivered, so they can’t complain. However, it is impossible to imagine the “would have”, even more so with all the conceptual arts that are beginning to emerge on social networks.

An image of the artist Maciej Kuciara (Marvel Studios contributor) showcases a different take on the showdown between Spider-Man and the Sorcerer Supreme, where the former isn’t trying to protect a mystical box but rather an enigmatic book. And perhaps it is the same book that in other conceptual art —also signed by Kuciara— lies within reach of America Chavez, a superheroine that although she will debut in the MCU through Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness —by the hand of the actor Xochitl Gomez— it seems that the idea of first reuniting her with Peter Parker and his friends was considered.
