Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities – Trailer, Synopsis and Release Date

The Oscar-winning Mexican director William of the Bull will make an alliance with Netflix again, but now with an eight-episode horror anthology series that bears the title Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities (Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities).

“It is meant to challenge our traditional notions of horror. Of [historias] Macabre to magical, gothic to grotesque or classically creepy, the eight sinister tales, including two original works by del Toro, will be brought to life by a team of writers and directors handpicked by the filmmaker from the shape of water“said the giant of streaming about the series (via dead line).

Each story will be based on some fantasy and horror stories by authors such as Michael Shea, HP Lovecraft, Henry Kuttner, Canadian comics author Emily Carroll; as well as two original stories written by Guillermo del Toro himself.

List of episodes: talent and production team

Although there is no release date, it is known that the project has already started its production phase in Toronto, Canada and has the participation of innumerable talents -in front of and behind the cameras- that the filmmaker from Guadalajara himself chose to give life to these eight macabre stories: andrew lincoln, ben barnesthe Mexican cinematographer William Navarro, Catherine Hardwicke, Ana Lily Amirpour and more.

  • Essie Davis, Andrew Lincoln and Hannah Galway star in an episode written and directed by Jennifer Kent (The Babadook; The Nightingale), based on an original story by Guillermo del Toro.
  • F. Murray Abraham, Glynn Turman and Luke Roberts will appear in an episode written by David S. Goyer (Dark City; The Dark Knight; Batman starts) (based on a short story by Michael Shea), and directed by David Prior (The Empty Man; AM1200).
  • Tim Blake Nelson, Elpidia Carrillo, Demetrius Grosse and Sebastian Roché star in an episode written by Regina Corrado (Deadwood; The Strain) and Guillermo del Toro; and led by William Navarro (Godfather of Harlem; narcs).
  • Crispin Glover and ben barnes star in an episode written by Lee Patterson (Curve; The Colony) (based on a short story by HP Lovecraft) and directed by Keith Thomas (Firestarter; The Vigil).
  • Peter Weller stars in an episode directed by Panos Cosmatos (Mandy), who also writes with Aaron Stewart-Ahn.
  • Mika Watkins (Origin; BlackMirror; Troy: Fall of a City) writes an episode (based on a short story by HP Lovecraft) directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen; Lords of Dogtown; Twilight); with cast to be announced.
  • David Hewlett stars in an episode written (based on a short story by Henry Kuttner) and directed by Vincenzo Natali (in the tall grass; splice; Cube; Hannibal).
  • Haley Z.Boston (Brand New Cherry Flavor; hunters) is the writer of an episode (based on a short story by comic book author Emily Carroll) directed by Ana Lily Amirpour (A girl walks home alone at night; cannibal loves) with cast to be confirmed.

Finally, it should be remembered that Guillermo del Toro published an illustrated book that also bears the title Guillermo del Toro: Cabinet of Curiosities: My Notebooks, Collections, and Other Obsessions (2013) and containing a look at his Bleak House mansion filled with statues, paintings, mysteries and collectibles; in addition to anecdotes from the production of his films.
