Guillermo del Toro will receive the Creative Excellence Award from the Visual Effects Society

We know that the two-time Oscar winner, William of the Bull, is one of the most creative filmmakers in the industry thanks to the fact that his stamp and cinematographic style have seen the birth of iconic and memorable creatures, monsters and characters from modern classics belonging to fantasy and science fiction. Such an attribute has not gone unnoticed by the Visual Effects Society/Visual Effects Society (VES, for its acronym in English), whose objective will be to give the filmmaker the Creative Excellence Award for his career as a director.

According dead linethe Creative Excellence Award, from the Visual Effects Society, «recognizes individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the art and science of the visual effects industry by uniquely and consistently creating compelling and creative images in service to the story«.

Throughout his career, Guillermo del Toro has stood out in the industry for implementing amazing special effects both by computer and through more rudimentary and palpable tools such as animatronics and makeup. It is worth mentioning that the man from Guadalajara studied makeup effects with the legendary artist dick smith and spent 10 years as a special effects makeup designer, later starting his own company, autopsy (via). You just have to review his filmography to realize his artistic work with Chronos, The Devil’s backbone, The Pan’s Labyrinth, hell boy, Pacific Titans, the shape of water and, his most recent film, the alley of lost souls.

Guillermo del Toro will not only receive the award from the VES, but the film the alley of lost souls is nominated in the category Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature (Best Supporting Visual Effects in a Photorealistic Production), by VES.
