Based on the homonymous science fiction novels, by Isaac Asimov, Foundation (Foundation) is the novel serial adaptation of Apple TV +, whose protagonists are a group of exiles, who undertake a journey to save humanity and rebuild an entire civilization in the midst of the decline of the Galactic Empire. Then see the trailer and find out all the details of the premiere of this epic adventure produced by Robyn Asimov, Josh Friedman and Cameron Welsh; and David S. Goyer (Batman starts) As the showrunner.

Before reaching the screens of the streaming, Isaac Asimov conceived Foundation as a series of about 16 science fiction books between 1942-1957 and 1982-1992 (year of his death). Asimov’s interest in telling these stories was born from the behavior and fall of future civilizations. In fact, the American writer and professor of biochemistry was inspired by the history of the decline and fall of the Roman Empire; as well as Arnold Toynbee’s theories on the cycles of history (via).

What is it about?

The plot draws from fictional science that combines history, psychology and statistics known as Psychohistory, to calculate and predict the behavior of future societies.

When the revolutionary Dr. Hari Seldon predicts the impending fall of the Empire, he and a group of loyal followers venture to the far reaches of the galaxy to establish The Foundation in an attempt to rebuild and preserve the future of civilization. Enraged by Hari’s claims, the ruling Cleons – a long line of emperor clones – fear that their dominance of the galaxy is weakening as they are forced to face the possible reality of losing their legacy forever.

During an interview with the BBC, David S. Goyer spoke about the timelessness of Isaac Asimov’s work and how it fits in with today’s times:

«[Asimov] He was not writing about the distant future. I was writing a post-WWII setting. He was talking about Nazi Germany. He was talking about being a Jew who had emigrated from Russia. He was talking about the old empires of Europe collapsing and the supremacy of America. […] Asimov created the Foundation to be a mirror, so I needed to write about what is happening now. He needed to write about Brexit, the MeToo, the rise of nationalism again. I needed to write about climate change, “he said.

Distribution

The cast of Foundation is headed by Jared harris (Chernobyl) as Hari Seldon. They also act Lee Pace (The Hobbit), Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Laura Birn, Cassian Bilton, Terrence Mann, T’Nia Miller, among others.
