FICM 2021: Know the unmissable of its programming and activities


The Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) 2021 will take place from October 27 to November 1, 2021 in Morelia, Michoacán and through virtual offices. Within the framework of this celebration to the cinema, the organizers have announced the unmissable of their programming and all the activities that will take place in this edition.

In the first place, the FICM will be in a hybrid format with projections for 6 days. The face-to-face performances will be at Cinépolis Morelia, Cinépolis Las Américas, Mariano Matamoros Theater and the University Cultural Center. The free virtual features can be enjoyed through Cinépolis Klic, Channel 22 and the platform FilminLatino.

Opening and closing ribbon

After becoming the inaugural film at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, winning in the category of Best Director and in the category of Cannes Soundtrack Award; as well as competing for the Palme d’Or, Annetteby Léos Carax (Holy motors), will have its premiere in Mexico within the framework of the 19th edition of Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) like the opening ribbon.

The event will take place on October 27, 2021 at the Mariano Matamoros Theater and will feature the presence of producer Julio Chavezmontes and French filmmaker Léos Carax, to whom a retrospective will be dedicated.

GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE It will be the closing tape. The event is scheduled for November 1, 2021 at the Mariano Matamoros Theater with the presence of Jason reitman, director of the feature film.

Stellar projections

This year, the festival will dress up to present the best of international cinematography with the screening of THE HAND OF GODby Paolo Sorrentino; THE LOST DAUGHTERby Maggie Gyllenhaal; THE POWER OF THE DOG by Jane Campion.

Titles also stand out KING RICHARD, by Reinaldo Marcus Green; THE FRENCH DISPATCHby Wes Anderson; THE CARD COUNTER by Paul Schrader; LAST NIGHT IN SOHO and THE SPARKS BROTHERSby Edgar Wright; BERGMAN ISLANDby Mia Hansen-Love; and THE LOST LEONARDOby Andreas Koefoed.

WE’RE ALL GOING TO THE WORLD’S FAIRby Jane Schoenbrun; I AM CUBANby Ivaylo Getov and Jeremy Ungar; THE STORY OF FILM: A NEW GENERATION and THE STORMS OF JEREMY THOMASby Mark Cousins; HAPPENINGby Audrey Diwan and TITANEby Julia Ducournau. This latest winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.

The movie Box (recently presented at the Venice International Film Festival) will have a special screening with the presence of director Lorenzo Vigas.

In the distance, the FICM will have the honor of inviting the Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul, to present the film MEMORY. AND Michel Franco will do the same with his new film SUNDOWN, with Tim Roth, (recently presented at the Venice International Film Festival).

The female presence also sounds strong in this edition thanks to Teodora Mihai, with THE CIVIL, an award-winning film at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival; and Tatiana Huezo, with FIRE NIGHT.
