Dune, the anticipated science fiction film by Denis Villeneuve, will debut in national territory -and before reaching commercial theaters- within the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG) to be held from October 1-9, 2021. The news was confirmed through the festival’s social networks, within the framework of its Press conference to present the schedule for its 36th edition.

Dune, based on the homonymous book by Frank Herbert, will be one of the great attractions of the Guadalajara film event after its premiere world at the Venice Film Festival. The cast includes names such as Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Zendaya and Dave Bautista.
What else will there be at FICG 2021?
The Official Selection that competes for the Mezcal Award It is made up of 11 films: 6 fiction films and 5 documentaries. Other categories include Ibero-American Feature Film (fiction and documentary), Ibero-American Short Film (fiction and documentary), Maguey Award, International Animated Feature Film, Rigo Mora Animation Award and Made in Jalisco.
In its 2021 edition, Elsa Aguirre, the Spanish filmmaker Julio Medem and the Spanish director Carlos Saura (Mayahuel de Oro for his career) will be awarded the Mayahuel; while the Guatemalan filmmaker Luis Argueta will receive the Mayahuel Internacional. Likewise, there will be other national guests such as Joaquín Cosío, Édgar Vivar, Regina Blandón, Ilse Salas and Martha Claudia Moreno.
The closing of the festival will feature the presentation of the first two episodes of Maya and the three, animated series directed by Jorge R. Gutierrez, based on Mesoamerican culture.
“In relation to Dune, the policy of the company until now is not to travel to many people; We saw them in Venice, but from Mexico we still don’t have a confirmed talent for projection. In relation to Maya and the three, we will have two episodes for the closing gala. This year’s format will be hybrid, what interests us is that the largest number of audiences join in for the screenings, conferences and masterclasses ”, said Estrella Araiza, general director of the Guadalajara International Film Festival, during the press conference .
