What is it about?
Drive My Car stars Yūsuke Kafuku (Hidetoshi Nishijima), an actor and theater director. He is married to Fukaku, a woman involved in the art world who writes theater scripts. They are both happily married; however, one day Fukaku disappears for no apparent reason, but haunted by a secret. Two years later, Yusuke moves on with his life and takes a job directing a theater festival. On the way to Hiroshima, he meets Misaki Watari (Tōko Miura), his reserved private chauffeur. As the days go by with her, Yusuke will rediscover certain aspects of her life that he had forgotten.

The film has received a large number of Awards and nominations in important festivals and contests. The Cannes Film Festival was only the beginning, but Drive My Car has set a milestone at the Oscars after getting four nominations (best international film, Best film, Best Adapted Screenplay Y best direction) which constitutes an all-time record for mentions for a Japanese film.
The Japanese film recently won the Best Foreign Language Film category at the last – and almost unnoticed – 79th Golden Globe Awards.
