Doctor Strange 2: Sam Raimi Hasn’t Seen More Than Five MCU Movies

[ad_1]

We are talking about fourteen years of interconnected films, which together add up to almost thirty. Not surprisingly, not all audiences have consumed the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And it is not to feel bad, because even those involved in giving continuity to this franchise have overlooked one or another title, if not the vast majority. There’s the case of sam raimiwho directed the coming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesswithout having seen more than five MCU movies.

This particular lack of baggage was confessed by the director himself in a recent interview with fandango. According to the interviewer, Elizabeth Olsen —who plays Scarlet Witch in the sequel to Doctor Strange— suggested weeks earlier that he ask Sam Raimi how familiar he was with the MCU before becoming involved in the Sorcerer Supreme saga. So the journalist did, and the veteran filmmaker had to come clean about it.

«had seen Hombre de Hierrothe first avengers, Black Panther and Doctor Strangeplus short clips from the other movies“, answered. “They have made 28 films. I’ve only really seen four or five, so I’ll say I’m not that familiar«.

However, Raimi reiterated that he is passionate about classic Marvel Comics. Therefore, he knew enough about that vast universe of superheroes. He did not need more to take the reins of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

“I was a huge fan of Marvel comics from the ’70s, ’80s and even ’90s,” he said. “So, I was very familiar with the characters, their stories, and their interactions. That’s what Marvel movies are based on.”

Sam Raimi was in the directing chair for the very first Spider-Man film saga. And to date, minimum Spider-Man 2 (2004) is usually listed among the best superhero movies of all time. This previous experience in the genre of masked vigilantes, in addition to his history of terrifying films, certified Raimi as the appropriate director for Doc Strange 2, after the departure of Scott Derrickson. Does it really matter that I haven’t seen Avengers: Endgame or Spider-Man: No Way Home?

On the other hand, the sequel to Doctor Strange allowed Sam Raimi to marvel at the interconnectedness of alternate universes. Tobey Maguire, who directed by Raimi starred in the first trilogy spider-mandiscovered it for his part in the blockbuster no way home. But the million dollar question is: will the filmmaker and actor team up again for future spider films, sheltered by Marvel and Sony Pictures?

“I love Toby. I love Kirsten Dunst. I believe that all things are possible. I don’t really have a story or a plan. I don’t know if Marvel would be interested in that at this point. I don’t know what his thoughts are about it. I haven’t really pursued that, but it sounds beautiful“, commented the director to fandango. “Even if it wasn’t a Spider-Man movie, I’d love to work with Tobey again, in a different role.”

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesswith Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, will hit Mexican theaters on May 5. And don’t forget that pre-sale has already started! Do you already have your tickets?
