The rumors turned out to be true. The famous Cillian Murphy will return to the warlike context of the mid-twentieth century, after his work in Dunkirk. And he will do it again under the direction of Christopher Nolan, now in the leading role of a film that (for now) is entitled Oppenheimer. This project will delve into the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a New York physicist who was part of the Manhattan Project and is considered “the father of the atomic bomb.”

As early as September, reports came in that the film in question would not be endorsed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It seems that the enormous discontent of Christopher Nolan With that production house — home to almost all of his filmography — it finally led him to ally himself with a rival studio. In the case of Oppenheimer, Universal Pictures was the lucky one to reach an agreement with Nolan’s firm, Syncopy Films, and it was both companies that this week confirmed Cillian Murphy as the protagonist.

Likewise, the reports reveal that the upcoming biopic It already has a release date. Oppenheimer will hit theaters (because with Christopher Nolan it cannot be otherwise) the July 21, 2023. It is, of course, a space on the calendar that is traditionally reserved for the prominent British filmmaker, whose blockbusters they always find a place of excellence in summer launches.

According to Deadline, Universal Pictures will distribute the film worldwide. This is described as a “Epic thriller filmed in IMAX” that will allow the public to enter “In the frenetic paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world to save it”.

Oppenheimer is based on the Pulitzer Prize winning book, American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, by the authors Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. In addition to director and screenwriter, Nolan will serve as producer alongside his eternal companion Emma Thomas.

Filming will begin in early 2022. Nolan’s team is joined by his collaborators to Tenetincluding cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema, editor Jennifer Lame, and composer Ludwig Göransson.

Cillian Murphy was last seen in the terrifying film A place in silence 2. He will soon be back in Thomas Shelby’s shoes, once the long-awaited sixth season of Peaky blinders (no release date yet).

The entry Cillian Murphy to be Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s new film was first published on FILM PREMIERE.
