When Disney and LucasFilms began to draw up their plans to bring the Star Wars universe to television, one of the series that was undoubtedly in the planning was Rangers of the New Republic. Later, there were other series on whose development we saw progress, but this was relegated especially after the controversial events that involved the actress Gina Carano after her dismissal from The Mandalorian. Now the heads of the study assure that the series never went beyond the mere mention and that there were not even pilot scripts or anything similar.
Rangers of the New Republic was announced in 2020 as a spin-off from The Mandalorian, with the acceptance of many that the Show I would follow in the footsteps of Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and her adventures in a galaxy far far away. At the same time, the series would be like a glimpse of everything that the rebels who were scattered throughout the universe were doing after the Empire and the dark side came to power.
The series that would be produced by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, would be the preamble to a great crossover of which they would be participants The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ashoka. Unfortunately it was just months later when the actress Gina Carano made some posts on social networks in which she compared the political situation (in favor of Donald Trump) with Nazi Germany, as well as some transphobic claims, which finally cost her her position.
Rangers of the New Republic it soon passed into oblivion, until it was confirmed in May of this year that the development of the series was not even active. However, LucasFilms President Kathleen Kennedy recently spoke with Empire and confirmed the definitive status of the series, which apparently is totally dead and inactive.
“We had never written any scripts, or anything about that,” he said.
When in recent months it was announced that the series was no longer in development, many believed that perhaps it would be a prolonged hiatus within a major strategy of the studio to rearrange the premiere of its series. However, Kennedy’s words seem to confirm that the series will definitely be forgotten.
When Gina Carano was fired from The Mandalorian, Disney said it had no plans to replace the actress with another talent. Although we have not known. Much about the third season of the Mandalorian, for now it seems certain that his character died and with him the spin-off series that was being planned.
Fortunately Disney and LucasFilms are not without content. As we mentioned earlier, The Mandalorian has confirmed his return for a third season, which did not arrive on time this year to the detriment of Boba Fett’s book which is set to be released on December 30.
2022 will be the favorite year for warsies with the arrival of the show focused on Ashoka, the Jedi played by Rosario Dawson; as well as the return of Ewan McGregor to the world of Star wars with the series Obi-Wan Kenobi. By the way Christen Haydensen will also return in that one to show us the darker side of a young Darth Vader.
The entry Canceled: There were never scripts for Rangers of the New Republic was first published in Cinema PREMIERE.
