Andrew Garfield perceive the virtues of Spider-Man: No Way Home apart from the manipulative tools of the fan service. There is no doubt that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, led by director Jon Watts, spared no resources to make an exciting, moving and fun film for all audiences, to the point of even paying homage to popular Spider-Man memes. The icing on the cake was, of course, including three versions of the wall-crawler in one movie. But beyond driving the fans crazy, such a crossover actually had a great weight within the story.
Recently, Andrew Garfield was part of a video interview in which his co-stars from Spider-Man: No Way Home, also famous performers of the beloved Spidey: Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire. Just one of the essential points of the conversation was that Holland’s colleagues and predecessors explained when they decided to join that MCU movie.
“Well, I was just waiting to see if Tobey would do it. And if Tobey did, then I’d be like, ‘Well, I don’t have a choice, you know? I would follow Tobey to the ends of the Earth,'” Andrew Garfield revealed with a laugh.
On the other hand, the actor of the saga The amazing Spiderman he acknowledged that producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige sold him very well on the project. “The intent feels very pure here. It actually feels like a great creative idea,” he recalled thinking back then. And it is that his presence and that of Tobey Maguire was not summed up to mere unimportant cameos for the arc of Peter Parker (the version that Tom Holland has played since 2016).
“It wasn’t like we were just being asked to come in, say hello and then leave again, but actually our presence was in service of Tom, in service of Tom’s journey and where he’s at as Peter Parker.” he explained. “And I love the sense of destiny of the multiverse that expands in this movie.”
Garfield went further by stating that if it weren’t for the alternate Spider-Man, surely the superhero of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would not have evolved as a character, or worse, would have abandoned the path of good.
“In fact, if Tobey’s Peter and Andrew’s Peter hadn’t been there for Tom’s Peter at that precise moment, he might not have become the Peter Parker he’s supposed to become,” Garfield said. . “And maybe he would have lost his girlfriend and walked a darker path, if Tobey hadn’t acted like this sort of mentor. [para Tom] at that moment”.
