Alfonso Cuarón will make miniseries with Cate Blanchett and Gary Oldman

After the international success of Rome (2018), which won in the category of Best Cinematography, Best International Film and Best Direction at the Oscars 2019, Alfonso Cuaron has begun to arrange the pieces of his next project, but to streaming. It is an 8-episode miniseries on Apple TV + with stellar performances by the Australian Cate blanchett and English Gary oldman.

The filmmaker responsible for And Your Mother Too (2001), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) and Gravity (2013) confirmed the project during the activities of the Rome International Film Festival (via We Got This Covered). However, he did not reveal more details, but the aforementioned medium assures that since the beginning of the year it was already rumored that the Mexican filmmaker was working on a series for Apple as a creator and screenwriter.

Without counting Marked time (1990), Alfonso Cuarón had already interfered in television work, but abroad with the series Believe (2014), a science fiction drama about a girl with exceptional powers and an ex-convict who must protect her from those who want to harm her. However, the show was canceled after its first season.

In 2019, director Alfonso Cuarón and his production company Esperanto Filmoj signed an exclusive contract with Apple TV + to carry out several serial projects (via IndieWire).

For now, no more information has been revealed about the miniseries that will feature Cate Blanchett and Gary Oldman. However, there are two projects announced in the director’s filmography: the first is Ascension, a horror series in production since 2017 and that would feature the lead performance of Cassey affleck, but it seems that, currently, the actor left the project (via); the second is A Boy and His Shoe, whose synopsis is the following:

“The stories of a French girl who moves to Scotland with her family and two troubled Scottish boys who end up crossing paths in surprising and moving ways”, (via).

Finally, during the Rome International Film Festival, Cuarón took the opportunity to acclaim Nightmare alley, the new film by his compatriot and friend Guillermo del Toro.
