Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun that killed photographer Halyna Hutchins (42) and injured director Joel Souza. The accident involving Alec Baldwin happened on the set of the movie Rust, which is filmed in New Mexico.
Variety reported that the photographer was airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, where she died. For his part, Joel Souza (48) is receiving treatment, according to the authorities of the city of Santa Fe.
In a statement released by the sheriff’s office about the accident, Hutchkins and Souza were “shot when a gun fired by Alec Bladwin, actor and producer.”
At the moment there have been no arrests, according to the same office. However, the investigation remains open and active.
“We received the devastating news this afternoon that one of our members, Halyna Hutchins, the director of photography on the production Rust in New Mexico he died on the set, “said John Lindley, the president of the cinematographers union, and Rebecca Rhine, the executive director, in a statement. “The details are not very clear yet, but we are working to find out more and we mourn the death of a member of our union.”
Just hours before the accident, Alec Baldwin posted an image on his Instagram from the set, in which he was happy and pleased to be back on a film set.
