Sony started its Universe of spider-man with the launch of Venom. The 2018 film became a box office hit (not critically so) and gave the studio confidence to continue exploring lesser-known characters on film. this is how it came Morbius and soon it will be the turn of Kraven, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson playing the iconic villain. Given the audience’s rejection of MorbiusDoubts began about whether this new film would respect the original character or it would be a disastrous adaptation. Today we have a more accurate response from the protagonist himself to calm the fans.
Who kraven the hunter?
In the comics, Sergei Kravinoff (his real name) defines himself as the best hunter in the world. He is always on the lookout for animals that challenge him to kill and he is one of Spider-Man’s best-known enemies. He is an expert in all kinds of combat and uses weapons if necessary, although he usually prefers to fight his prey hand-to-hand. A special potion gives him greater strength and perception in the senses, as well as slower aging.
The problem arose a few weeks ago. Aaron Taylor-Johnson said that Kraven would be “an animal lover and protector of the natural world.” Fans of the character were infuriated that this description contrasted with Kraven’s origins and began to speculate that the film would have big differences in its treatment of such an important character.
During a recent interview, the protagonist corrected his words and offered new details of what we can expect in this film (via):
I can’t confirm details or anything. And I also think that was taken a little bit out of context. I mean, you know what I meant when I mentioned that he was a protector of the natural world. I said he was a conservationist, that’s more fitting, and he should have stopped there.”
Another of the great expectations of the fans is to see Kraven in all his splendor in brutal action scenes that are not afraid of classification. For example, Morbius and Venom: Carnage Unleashed got the classification PG-13 (equivalent to B in Mexico), so the violence was very measured compared to what was expected. In that sense, Taylor-Johnson confirmed that there will be no major changes in the character, but a deeper exploration of it:
“What I love about the character is that he is humanizing himself and seeing his flaws. Kraven is a beautiful character. Sergei Kravinoff is a character who understands himself and his mistakes. He was created many years ago and he’s in a new age, but yeah, will we see the hunter we all want to see? Yes absolutely. Absolutely”.
Kraven The Hunter will hit theaters on January 13, 2023. It is directed by JC Chandor (triple border) and features Oscar winner Ariana DeBose, Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola, Russell Crowe and Levi Miller.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s entry says Kraven will be “the hunter everyone wants” was first published in Cinema PREMIERE.
